New Standard Direct Vision (DVS) and Security Permits (HGV) in London
As part of the Vision Zero plan in London, the Direct Vision standard (DVS) and safety clearances (HGV) have been implemented for all trucks over 12 tonnes. The Direct Vision standard measures how much truck drivers can see directly through the windows of their cab, and vehicles are given an appropriate rating (0-5 stars). From 26 October 2020, it is mandatory for all trucks over 12 tonnes entering or operating in Greater London to have a new safety permit and the permit scheme will apply 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you do not have a valid travel permit in the Greater London area, you will be fined up to £ 550 (reduced by 50% if paid within 14 days).

From 26 October 2020, heavy goods vehicles will also have to meet even stricter standards for low-emission zones (LEZs) throughout London. If you are driving a truck or other specialized vehicle over 3.5 tonnes within the LEZ:
- Does not comply with Euro VI – you will have to pay a daily fee of £ 100
- Does not meet the standard Euro IV PM – you will have to pay 300 pounds
- Complies with Euro VI – you will no longer have to pay the separate ULEZ fee
