Road tax in France – AUTOROUTES
The road tax in France is controlled by 22 operators. The tolling system is based on the distance traveled and is payable for all vehicles over 3.5 tons and buses. Vehicles are classified into 4 groups, depending on the type, weight and number of axles. Whencalculating the due road tax, vehicle category and kilometers traveled are taken into account. Toll routes: All motorways and first-class routes.
How to pay?
- On-Board unit
Using an on-board toll-payment device allows you to benefit from discounts and transit through the automatic lane. To request an OBU device, you should contact your fuel supplier. The units are used in Post-Pay mode, where the toll charge is withdrawn automatically from your fuel card.
- Bank or fuel card payment
When paying by bank or fuel card, you need to use the line for manual payment. When using this method, you cannot benefit from discounts.
NB! Please note that when paying with a card, no pin code is required, which is a potential risk of misapplication of the card.
