Fuel excise duty refund and latest changes in excise duty rates 2023

All road transport companies registered in the EU are entitled to a partial refund of excise duties, paid on the purchase of fuel, in case it is used for their activity as transport operators of goods or passengers. Transport companies outside the EU are excluded from the right of refund.

Countries that refund excise duty on fuels:

BE – Belgium

FR – France

HU – Hungary

IT – Italy

HR – Croatia

SI – Slovenia

ES – Spain

Vehicles eligible for reimbursement must have a maximum permissible weight at least 7.5 tons. Excise duty can be refunded if the fuel is paid by fuel card, credit or bank card. It is of great importance when uplifting, to keep in mind that in case that company fuel cards are used (not personalized to registration number of vehicles), or bank (in which an invoice is taken on the spot), and in case there is no information on expenditure document or information differs, your excise duty refund will be denied. Fuel excise duty refunds are usually requested through the national customs of the countries,
by completing digital or paper forms along with a full set of supporting documents want.
